This presentation will provide an overview of the findings of a comprehensive three-year study on the diversity and inclusiveness of a fire department's employee pool to represent the community that it serves. The main analysis that was completed and will be presented was whether or not certification requirements for new applicants have a negative impact on the ability of a fire department’s employee pool to represent the community that it serves. This presentation will also provide recommended methods and procedures to overcome this challenge.
