Randy Royal has been a member of the Colorado Springs Fire Department for over 36 years and serves as the Fire Chief, having previously held the rank of Deputy Chief of Operations, Deputy Chief of Support Services, and Shift Commander/Battalion Chief. He has worked in emergency services for over 46 years (28 years as a paramedic.) having previously been involved with volunteer fire and private EMS transport agencies. Chief Royal graduated from Flagler College and has regularly attended the National Fire Academy receiving the Executive Fire Officer designation. He also holds the Chief Fire Officer designation through the Center of Public Safety Excellence. He has taught classes at Fire-Rescue International, Fire-Rescue Med, the Alabama State Chiefs Conference, Colorado Fire Leadership Challenge, as well as numerous venues around the state and region. He presently serves on the Executive Board of the Colorado State Fire Chiefs Association, and is in the position of Secretary.
