Ms. Pickett started her career in public safety working as an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education federal research fellow at the White House (Washington, DC). She was later hired by the Fairfax County Fire & Rescue Department (Virginia), where she retired as an All Hazards Lieutenant. While with FCFRD, she served as a decorated firefighter, paramedic, master technician, field supervisor, academy instructor, Gubernatorial Appointee to the Child Fatality Review Team, executive board member of Local 2068, and Technical Information Specialist for the Urban Search & Rescue VATF1. During her tenure, she completed numerous projects for the Office of the Fire Marshal, including editing the Code Reference Manual.
Subsequently, Ms. Pickett served as a Deputy Emergency Manager for the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety (Pennsylvania). Including responding to EOC activations, she was responsible for regulatory oversight, quality assurance, program management, and training for 9 medical command hospitals, 20 EMS agencies, 49 Law enforcement agencies, and 93 fire departments (career, combination, and volunteer) serving a population of over 840,000.
With 20 years of public service, Ms. Pickett was named Executive Director of F.I.E.R.O., a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving firefighter health and safety through education and research.
Ms. Pickett founded her own consulting firm, RPM Solutions Group, Inc. As the founder and CEO, of RPM, she has participated in fire department studies across the country, from Anchorage, AK to Baltimore, MD. Ms. Pickett has spoken internationally and has worked with diverse teams from across the globe. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ms. Pickett completed in-person respectful workplace training for the 1600+ members of the Boston Fire Department and she is currently assisting with the development of DEI&B leadership strategies for the Fire Department of New York (FDNY).
Most recently, Ms. Pickett spent over 8 weeks on the ground in Lahaina (Maui, HI) as part of the UL Fire Safety Reasearch Institute (FSRI) investigating the devastation and reporting on the tragic events of the August 8, 2023 Maui Lahaina fire. Two of the three phased reports have since been released.
Ms. Pickett graduated magna cum laude/Phi Beta Kappa from the George Washington University, is a George C. Marshall Scholar, an ORISE Fellow, holds an Executive Certificate in Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion from Cornell University, is a Nationally Registered Paramedic, and is pursuing graduate coursework in public health and policy at Drexel University.
